How long does eyelid surgery take and when will I see results?

Blepharoplasty takes between 45 and 90 minutes depending on whether upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both are operated on. The first 5–7 days there will be normal swelling and bruising. Most patients return to daily activities in 7–10 days. Final results are visible at one month, and scars mature over 3–6 months until they become virtually invisible.

No. Surgeries are performed under local anesthesia with mild sedation, meaning you are relaxed and pain-free throughout the procedure. In the postoperative period there may be some discomfort or tension, easily managed with common analgesics.

An oculoplastic surgeon is first an ophthalmologist — an eye specialist — and then completed an additional subspecialty in plastic and reconstructive surgery of the periocular area. This means they have deep knowledge of the anatomy of the eye, eyelids and orbit, ensuring that any intervention in that area is safe for your vision. A general plastic surgeon operates well, but does not have the specific eye training that Dr. Martínez Solís has.

Is the procedure outpatient or do I need hospitalization?

The vast majority of oculoplastic surgeries are outpatient: you come in and leave the same day. No hospitalization needed. It is only recommended that someone drive you home and stay with you on the first day.

There is no fixed minimum age. Most patients seek it between 40 and 65 years, when eyelid drooping becomes noticeable or affects function. However, there are cases of younger patients with congenital or hereditary ptosis. The doctor evaluates each case individually.
